House
Dunkeld Lodge
- Location: Bishopscourt
- Decorator: Craig Kaplan
- Landscape Designer: Franchesca Watson
The original house was poorly positioned on this beautiful plot with outstanding views. The plot had several well-established and extraordinary trees. Some of these were retained in their current positions and others relocated. The topography of the land and views determined the positioning of the house on the erf. The tennis court was positioned directly behind a row of Almond trees known as Van Riebeeck's Hedge.
The clients provided excellent guidance in terms of their brief. Helen was hands-on and decisive. The concept sketch was realised quickly. The design is a mixture of traditional elements and some quirky detailing. Much emphasis has been placed on entertaining and indoor/outdoor living. The large covered patio has been placed to one side, so as not to truncate the view from the other reception rooms.
Considerable attention was paid to the detailing, including Pierre Cronje floors and front door. The external doors are all double-glazed aluminium. The flower room to the rear of the property was designed with an “industrial” feel.
